Holly Berry Ring
It's easy to make your own fashionable button rings by recycling
materials you probably have on hand. Just add some new thread and you
have a personalized holiday accessory to wear for the season. Makes a
fun gift idea too.
Materials needed:
- Kreinik Silk Mori®, one 2.5m skein of two shades of green, such as 4033 + 4034, or 4033 + 4063, or 4163 + 4166
- about 7 to 10 small red seed beads
- red fabric-covered button (or make your own by covering a button with scraps of fabric
- a button slightly larger than your fabric button (we chose a black button, but any color would work)
- elastic piece, about 3"
- ribbon to cover outside of elastic (optional)
- glue gun
- crewel needle or #24 Tapestry needle and embroidery scissors
Instructions:
1. Create your holly embroidery on the fabric button by stitching holly
leaves using the two shades of Kreinik Silk Mori. Use one strand of silk
for a lighter leaf, or two strands for a fuller-looking leaf. Follow
the outline we have given here and fill in with long (straight) stitches
of the silk thread, or create your own. It may help to backstitch the
outline of the leaf first, then fill in with stitches.
2. Add the seed beads using extra strands of Silk Mori.
3. Hot glue the fabric button to the larger button.
4. Cut the elastic to measure your finger or the size desired, and glue
the elastic ends to the back of the large button. This will form the
ring band.
5. If desired, glue decorative ribbon around the outside of the elastic (we used a green gingham ribbon).
