The Spider Web Rose stitch helps you create realistic, 3-dimensional, layers of rose petals in a blooming rose. This stitch may be called "wagon wheel" but here we'll use it to make roses. Here are some top tips:

  1. The loveliest thread for stitching a rose is a ribbon. Make it a metallic ribbon, and your rose will look dew-covered and always fresh.
  2. Kreinik 1/16" Ribbon is ideal for smaller roses, like on cross stitch designs.
  3. Kreinik 1/8" Ribbon is wider and ideal for roses on needlepoint designs.
  4. For an even larger rose, use Kreinik 1/4" Ribbon.

Follow the diagram to stitch a rose

To make this stitch, first lay a foundation of “spokes” that you will weave the ribbon in and out of to make the rose. With the ribbon, come up in the center (A), and begin sliding the ribbon over and under the spokes. Continue until your flower is as full as desired.
