    Spiral Heart Card

    Designed by: Kathy Wegner

    Skill Level: Beginner

Use your heart punch with Iron-on thread to make a colorful, sparkling, and cheerful gift card. The metallic threads peek through the heart holes to delight the person receiving your heart-felt gift. It’s so easy to create, you’ll want to make a dozen! This is a fun project for greeting card clubs, church groups, and senior centers.

    Materials needed:

    • • 3” x 5” plain white index card or white cardstock
    • • small piece of red cardstock
    • Kreinik Iron-on #16 Braid in 6130 Red, 6580 Violet, 6450 Royal Blue, 6350 Green, 6250 Orange
    • Kreinik Adhesive Press Cloth*
    • 1 1/2” heart punch (we used Marvy Uchida extra jumbo 1 1/2” craft punch)
    • other supplies: scissors, iron or mini iron, ironing surface, paper adhesive

*If your iron isn't non-stick or Teflon coated, we recommend that you get one of our Adhesive Press Cloths. It will keep the adhesive in the thread from sticking to your iron. They come in various sizes. Apply to a cool iron.

    Instructions:

Turn your iron onto the highest heat setting and let it heat thoroughly.

    1. Place red cardstock on ironing surface. With Teflon press cloth over threads, iron red thread onto red cardstock in spiral designs. Punch heart shape from red cardstock.
    2. Fold 3” x 5” card in half to make a gift card. With press cloth over threads, iron spirals on card front, using all colors of braid. Adhere heart to card front.

  • No-Sew Quilted Pillow

Note: this item is not shipped

Kreinik Iron-on Threads go perfectly with quilt stencils—just follow the outline. Designed by Linda Lindgren.

Love the beautiful stitch patterns you’ve seen on heirloom quilts? They are easy for non-sewers to achieve by simply using quilt stencils and iron-on threads, as we’ve done in this charming pillow. The look fits into retro or cottage-style home décor, and you can pick colors specifically to match your room.

    Materials needed:

    • Purchased throw-pillow case (often found in fabric stores or fabric departments, they usually have decorative trim already sewn in, and have an opening in the back for filling)
    • Polyester fiberfill stuffing
    • Quilt stencil to fit the area of the pillow top (find these in quilt shops or fabric departments)
    • Disappearing ink pen or pencil
    • Kreinik Iron-on Ribbon in your choice of colors (we used red)
    • Household iron or Mini Iron
    • Kreinik adhesive press cloth if using a mini iron, or a regular press cloth for a regular iron*

*If your iron isn't non-stick or Teflon coated, we recommend that you get one of our Adhesive Press Cloths. It will keep the adhesive in the thread from sticking to your iron. They come in various sizes. Apply to a cool iron.

    Instructions:

    1. Make sure your pillowcase is clean and dry before beginning.
    2. Turn your iron onto the highest heat setting and allow it to heat thoroughly.
    3. Using a disappearing pen or pencil, trace your quilt stencil pattern onto the front of the pillowcase.
    4. Lay your iron-on thread at a starting point, cover with the Teflon PressCloth, and tack down with your iron.
    5. Continue along your traced lines, laying the thread directly on top of the marks, pressing the thread in sections, ironing for 3 to 5 seconds to make sure the thread adheres.
    6. When finished, clip the thread and begin in your next area.
    7. At the end, fill the pillowcase with stuffing.

  • Be Mine Card

    Be Mine valentine card

    Designed by: Amy Law

    Skill level: Beginner

    Materials needed:

    • white cardstock & Be My Valentine text (choose your favorite, we used Tuesday font)
    • red card (red texture from Paper Reflections)
    • Kreinik Iron-On #16 Braid 6130 Red
    • Kreinik press cloth
    • Iron or mini iron
    • Emotion paper design by Michelle Anderson (Provo Craft)
    • gold heart (scrap pack striped gold paper)

    Basic Iron-on thread how-to:

If your iron doesn't have a non-stick Teflon coating, it's a good idea to get one of our Adhesive Press Cloths. It keeps the adhesive in the thread from sticking to your iron. They come in a variety of sizes. Apply to a cool iron.

Turn your iron onto the highest heat setting and let it heat thoroughly. Lay the thread at your starting point, cover with the Teflon press cloth, and press for several seconds until the thread adheres. Continue in this manner, working the design in sections.

    Instructions:

    1. Print your text on a sheet of white cardstock. A simple font is easiest to follow; we have used one called “Tuesday”.

    2. Using your iron-on thread, embellish each letter by going over the text. (Be careful not to let your iron brush the ink as this can cause it to smear.)

    3. When you are done embellishing your message, cut out the words. By making your cuts at an angle, instead of perfect rectangles, you create a fun, funky effect. Cut a small rectangle of the “Emotion” paper.

    4. You are ready to assemble your card. Attach the “Emotion” paper to your card first. Arrange your words on top, and attach them as well. Finally, attach your heart. Your card is done!
