  • Baby's sleeping door hanger

Note: This item is not shipped.

Designed by: Nancy Billetdeaux, Skill Level: Beginner

Here's a quick baby gift you can make in an afternoon. The iron-on threads look embroidered, but take less time.

    Materials needed:

    • 1/8 yard of pink fabric
    • 1/8 yard of blue fabric
    • 1/4 yard of white fabric
    • Polyfil® (two big handfuls)
    • Kreinik Iron-on #16 Braid in 6400 Blue Bell and 6120 Pink
    • Kreinik Iron-on 1/8" Ribbon in 6010 Pearl
    • Teflon Press Cloth or Adhesive Press Cloth
    • White all-purpose thread
    • sewing machine
    • HeatnBond® Iron-on adhesive, 2" x 17" piece
    • scissors
    • iron and ironing board

Note: if your iron is not Teflon-coated, you will want to use a press cloth between the thread and the iron, or apply a Kreinik Adhesive Press Cloth to your iron (several sizes are available). Apply the Adhesive Press Cloth while your iron is cool and unplugged.

    Instructions:

    1. Trace cloud pattern onto doubled white fabric and cut out.

    2. Following manufacturers instructions, adhere HeatnBond to the wrong side of a 2" x 15" piece of blue fabric. Do not remove paper backing at this time. Trace the letters and the symbols that are to be blue face down on the paper. Cut the letters out.

    3. Following manufacturers instructions, adhere HeatnBond to the wrong side of a 2" x 15" piece of pink fabric. Do not remove paper backing at this time. Trace the letters and the symbols that are to be pink face down on the paper. Cut the letters out.

    4. Remove paper backing from letters and the symbols and place on the top right side of the cloud referring to photo for placement. Iron letters and symbols in place following manufacturers instructions.

    5. Using the Teflon Press Cloth, press the #16 Braid to each of the coordinating letters and symbols: lay the thread at a starting point, cover with the Teflon Press Cloth, and press for several seconds with a hot iron until the thread adheres. Continue this way, working your letters until complete.

    6. Pin the front and back of the cloud together, right side facing out. Using a satin stitch, stitch around cloud leaving a small opening for stuffing. Stuff cloud. Satin stitch remainder of cloud closed.

    7. Cut a 12" piece of pearl 1/8" Ribbon and stitch to the wrong side of pillow to serve as a pillow hanger.

  • Embellished Quilt Label

NOTE: this is not a product that is shipped.

    Materials needed:
    • pre-printed fabric quilt label or your own designed label
    • Kreinik Iron-on metallic threads: 1/8" Ribbon in your desired colors, and #16 Braid in your desired colors
    • Kreinik Adhesive Press Cloth
    • Mini Craft Iron or home iron

    Instructions:

    1. The Kreinik Adhesive Press Cloth keeps the adhesive in the thread from making your iron surface sticky. So if your iron isn't already Teflon®-coated, then apply the Adhesive Press Cloth to its surface while it is cool. Kreinik offers these cloths in various sizes to fit popular irons.
    2. Turn your iron onto the highest heat setting and let it heat thoroughly.
    3. Use the Iron-on threads to decorate your quilt label. In our photograph, we sewed scraps of fabric to the label, and used the threads to decorate the seams, crazy-quilt style. Simply lay the thread at a starting point, cover with your iron, and press for a few seconds until the thread adheres. Continue working your design this way. The thread does not have a right or wrong side, so feel free to fold, curl, shape the thread as desired.

  • Fusible Fibers Flower Pillow

Note: This item is not shipped.

We found this readymade felt flower pillow at a Home Goods store, but it was plain, lacking any embellishment. We had the perfect solution: quick and easy iron-on thread.

    Materials needed:

    • purchased pillow to decorate
    • Kreinik Iron-on Ribbon in a mix of colors
    • Kreinik Adhesive Press Cloth
    • Mini iron, craft iron, or home iron
    • Yellow foam circles (optional)
    • Kreinik Treasure Tape™
    • small piece of fabric (we used a piece of yellow cotton fabric cut into a circle shape the size of our flower center)

    Instructions:

    1. Attach the Kreinik Adhesive Press Cloth to the plate of your cool iron. This will keep the adhesive in the thread from sticking to your iron.
    2. Turn your iron on to the highest heat setting and let it heat thoroughly.
    3. Have an idea as to how big you want your iron-on embellishment piece. Cut your fabric piece slightly larger than this size; this piece will serve as the background fabric on which you will iron the threads.
    4. Cut short-length pieces of iron-on threads and lay on the fabric piece in a random order. Press with your hot iron for a few seconds until the thread adheres. Continue pressing all threads this way until they are secure.
    5. Lay Treasure Tape on the back of your embellished piece, peel back the red liner to expose the sticky area. Trim design as desired, then attach to your pillow in desired location.
    6. If desired: Using Treasure Tape, adhere foam discs to design in desired places.
    7. Optional: embellish other areas of the pillow with remaining Iron-on Threads. We picked out the green colors from the bag of bits and ironed them onto the petals of the flower.
