Here's a fast project that makes good use of fun fabrics. Use this idea to make bookmarks, scrapbook page embellishments, etc.

    Materials needed:

    • one paper tag
    • small square cut from a fabric print (we found this lighthouse fabric at Walmart)
    • Kreinik Iron-on Ribbon in light blue (or in a color to match your print)
    • Kreinik Iron-on #16 Braid in blue to make the birds
    • Kreinik Press Cloth or Adhesive Press Cloth
    • Mini iron or household iron
    • glue stick

    Instructions

Note: if your iron is not Teflon-coated, you will want to use a press cloth between the thread and the iron, or apply a Kreinik Adhesive Press Cloth to your iron (several sizes are available). Apply the Adhesive Press Cloth while your iron is cool and unplugged.

    1. Turn your iron onto the highest heat setting and let it heat thoroughly.

    2.  Glue the fabric swatch to the tag.

    3. Outline the fabric swatch with the 1/8" Iron-on ribbon: lay the thread at a starting point, cover with a Teflon Press Cloth, and press for several seconds until the thread adheres. Continue working the design in sections in this manner.

    4. Make birds by ironing the #16 Braid 6450 Royal Blue in the same manner.

    5. Weave pieces of metallic ribbon through the tag's hole to finish off your tag.

  • Iron-on Brocade Bookmark

Note: This item is not shipped.

Designed by: Amy Law, Skill Level: Beginner

Here's a quick gift to make for a book-lover in your life - or for yourself. By using 'romantic' papers and quick iron-on threads for an embroidered look, you can create an old-world, vintage-style design (perfect for reading a favorite Jane Austen novel, "Don Quixote" or the latest Nora Roberts book).

    Materials used in our model:

    • Etal real metal paper- Tinted silver ES3-A
    • Red foil paper
    • Tidings/Wintermint paper from Fruitcake by Basic Grey
    • Passion Red Quills Paper from Fibermark
    • Gold stripe paper, Die Cuts with a View mat stack
    • Kreinik Metallic Iron-on Threads in 1/8" Ribbon 6090 Black
    • Tools: scissors, iron, press cloth or Adhesive Press Cloth, McGill Craftivity Giant
      Flower Punch

Note: if your iron is not Teflon-coated, you will want to use a press cloth between the thread and the iron, or apply a Kreinik Adhesive Press Cloth to your iron (several sizes are available). Apply the Adhesive Press Cloth while your iron is cool and unplugged.

    Instructions:

    1. First turn on your iron on to it's highest heat setting and allow it to heat up. Cut one 2.5" x 6.5" piece of Silver Etal paper for your base. Cut a 1.5" x 6.5" strip of Tidings paper. Cut a 3/4" strip of black striped paper and a 1/4" strip of Passion Red paper. Punch a small flower from the red foil paper.

    2. Begin assembling your bookmark. Center your Tidings paper on the base. Using your Black ribbon, outline each side of the paper: lay the thread at a starting point, cover with the Teflon Press Cloth, and press for several seconds until the thread adheres. Center your Black Stripe and Passion Red paper on the bookmark. Position your flower towards the top, over the red strip. Using your Black ribbon, create a flower design on the bookmark: Iron down one end of your thread in the center of the flower. Make a loop and tack down the end over the center again. Continue making loops in each direction until you have a full flower.

  • Stitched Christmas Tree Card Embroidery on cards

    Designed by: Erica Fortgens
    Skill level: All

Beautiful shimmering threads set against beautiful rich papers,  stitched in beautifully symmetrical patterns...and as easy to do as dot-to-dot puzzles!

Embroidery on paper is grown-up fun and elegance thanks to talented designers like Erica Fortgens, who create patterns, books and stencils that show you how to easily create stunning embroidered cards, tags and other paper projects. You stitch with fine metallic threads like Kreinik Cord through pre-punched holes, making the designs as simple or as elaborate as you like.

Here, Erica shares two project ideas from one of her books so you too can make a beautiful holiday card, ornament or gift tag. These projects are a unique way to share your love of embroidery with others and make something absolutely stunning!

    Materials needed:

    • Cardstock to make the card, tag or ornament as desired
    • Kreinik Cord in colors to match your project
    • computer mouse pad, cardboard section, or Erica Punch Matt (#4050510)
    • very fine and fine punch pen, needle, or Erica Punch Pens (#4050506)
    • scissors
    • adhesive tape
    • needle slightly thinner than the punch pen you have used

    Instructions:

     1. SET THE DESIGN: Make a copy of the design (scroll down to see templates), cut it out in a square,  place it on the chosen spot on the card, fix it with two pieces of adhesive tape, and place the card with the design on the punch mat.  Punch the design accurately with the very fine punch pen (or needle)  for the small dots, and a fine or slightly larger needle for the larger dots-the larger dots will be holes with more than one thread going into them repeatedly. Hold the needle/punch pen straight and upright as you are punching for the cleanest hole. Hold the card against the light to see if you have punched everything. Remove the design. Now your design is punched into the card.

     2. BEGIN EMBROIDERY:  Thread your needle with Kreinik Cord. Follow the instructions for this particular shape according to the stitching diagram (see below) and the model; for example, start at A. Pull the needle through with your Kreinik Cord and leave a small amount of thread on the back as a tail. Fix this with a piece of adhesive tape. Continue stitching, following the diagram.

     3. FINISHING: To hide the back of your work, cover it with a card of the same size and color. For a more elegant result, cut the edges with decorative scissors.
