Here is a beautiful way to combine scraps of yarn, Christmas buttons, jingle bells, and of course metallic threads to decorate a dollar-store ornament.

Materials needed:

  • Purchased ornament
  • Medium weight red, white, green, or red/white yarn
  • Kreinik Blending Filament in silver hi lustre 001HL (or your choice of colors)
  • Size E crochet hook
  • Kreinik double-sided Treasure Tape, 1/4" roll
  • flat-backed, miniature satin doves (found in wedding section of a craft store), or similar flat backed decoration
  • ribbons, bells as desired

Instructions:

1. With the medium weight yarn and the Twist Yarn held together, chain 4. Join with slip stitch to form a ring.

2. Chain 3. Work two Double Crochet in ring.

3. Chain 3. Turn. Work two Double Crochet in first stitch.

4. Chain 3. Turn. Work two Double Crochet in first stitch. Continue this way until you reach the desired length (measure against your ornament). When length is achieved, tie off, trim thread ends.

5. Lay the Treasure Tape around the ornament at the center. Peel off the red liner to expose the top sticky layer. Lay the crocheted section on the tape, laying flat and pressing to secure.

6. Using scraps of double-sided Treasure Tape, attach the doves as desired.

7. Add ribbons, bells etc at the top for flourishes.

8. Add an ornament hanger with leftover yarn or ribbon.
