Vintage Ornament
Blackwork Style Victorian Ornament
Designed by Jill Cater Nixon

Blackworkembroidery is a beautiful, historical embroidery technique involving lines andpatterns and colors and textures. We know that the technique has been used atleast since the 16th century, and you may have seen paintings of royal figureswearing blackwork blouses in your local museum or history books. It primarily consists of outline and filling stitches worked in repeatingpatterns. Blackwork is so named because black silk thread was commonly used onwhite or light fabric-and often accented with gold threads-to decorate clothingand linens. Today, the technique of blackwork is innovative and exciting as wecan choose colors that match our home decor and use metallic threads to playwith light and texture.

Thisornament design was created by British needlework designer Jill Cater Nixonusing Kreinik's antique-finish Vintage Threads in braid and Blending Filament(for different light and texture effects).
