Halloween Cat Placemat
A dollar-store transformation
Skill level: for all
Time: about an hour
We found this blank black mesh placemat at a dollar store and thought it was a perfect base for cross-stitchiing. You can easily follow the grid just like you would on Aida. You can also look for mesh "fabric" in fabric stores, or use screen, etc.
Materials needed:
-
black mesh placemat
-
Kreinik metallic threads in a size to fit your placemat. For instance, we used Tapestry #12 Braid, a slightly thicker braid size since the mesh had large holes
-
large-eye embroidery or tapestry needle
Instructions:
Cross stitch the cat design — or your own pattern — on your black mesh. We used glow-in-the-dark 051F Tangerine to cross stitch the cat, 052F Grapefruit for straight-stitch whiskers, and 015 Chartreuse for Smyrna cross eyes
