Kreinik Silk Floss is a 100% pure dyed filament silk that lays flat when wrapped on the hook.

  • Silk is the strongest of the natural fibers.
  • The natural sheen makes silk an excellent material for colorful tags and overwraps on soft hackles, steelhead, and salmon flies. The red floss is ideal for any of the Royal fly patterns.
  • Silk is highly receptive to dyeing. Metal-complex and acid type dyes work best. This enables tyers to dye and create colors that are specific to individual patterns.
  • To use as an overwrap, build up a fly body with dubbing or some other material, then cover the body with Kreinik Silk Floss to add color and sheen. Sold on 10-meter (11-yard) spools.

TIP: Use a non-greasy hand cream (or olive oil and sea salt) to smooth rough hands before working with silk.

Kreinik's Silk Floss is the best floss available on the market...it is easy to work with because it is strong and won't fray. It lays flat, allowing tyers to tie slim bodies without fear of tying a bulky fly.
