Pansy Quilt Block
This charming quilt block was created using a pattern by Botanical Art Quilts. Coni Bjelland, owner of Glacier Quilts store in Montana, made the pansy appliqué block, then outlined it with Kreinik Iron-on Threads. "The iron-on threads are a unique way to bring more dimension to even a simple applique design. Use them in the ditch (the iron-on thread covers imperfections too!)," notes Coni. To replicate this design, you will need:
-
Pansy pattern from Botanical Art Quilts book by Coni Bjelland, owner of Glacier Quilts store in Montana (https://www.glacierquilts.com/ or phone (406) 257-6966)
-
Kreinik 1/8" Ribbon Iron-on threads: 6580 Violet, 6350 Green, 6200 Daffodil
-
Kreinik Press Cloth*
-
Household iron or craft iron
Create a single block or a wall hanging of the pansy applique design following the instructions in the Botanical Art Quilts pattern. Quilt the block, quilting in the ditch around the applique. When ready to iron on the threads, turn your iron onto the highest heat setting and let it heat up. Begin by placing the iron-on thread at a starting point, cover with the Teflon Press cloth, and press for several seconds until the thread adheres. Continue working this way until your design embellishment is complete. Outline the applique with the Iron-on thread or embellish as desired.
* Note: If using a craft Iron, try the Kreinik Adhesive Press Cloth. Simply apply it to the foot of your craft iron.
