Kreinik encourages you to
participate in the
Needle and ThREAD Stitching for Literacy program
WHAT
IS IT?
Needle and ThREAD: Stitching for Literacy is a
program in which stitchers, crafters, and shops donate handmade
bookmarks to local libraries and schools to promote LITERACY.
Participants are challenged to create as many bookmarks as they can to
touch as many lives as they can.
The 2009 Bookmark Challenge runs March 19 - May 7
HOW DID IT START?
This program was started a few years ago by
needlework designer Jen Funk Weber, who also works in the children's
book industry. She combined her two passions into a community project,
and word quickly spread. Now the program has participants from all over
the world. Articles about the program have appeared in The American
Library Association newsletter, the newspaper of hte International
Reading Association, Needle Arts magazine, and the publication of The
National NeedleArts Association.
HOW DO I GET INVOLVED?
• We encourage you to talk to your local needlework
store about the program, asking if the shop is involved or organizing
the program with your shop.
• If you don't have a local needlework store, visit
www.jenfunkweber.comfor links to the Stitching for Literacy program, a
blog, lists of participating shops, and more information.
• Need a bookmark pattern to stitch or craft? Check
