TIP: Make more eye-catching edgings on cards or scrapbooks
We love the many fancy-edged scissors available in stores now. They make trimmed paper more visually exciting than plain straight edges. But did you know that you can take your creations to a whole new level of uniqueness by decorating the scalloped edges themselves? Here's one idea - and it doesn't take lots of time, precision or skill level.
Look at the difference between the two cards here. The bottom one was embellished with Iron-on Thread, adding a texture to create more dimension. You can see how we've embellished the scalloped edge in the other models too. It ties the whole design together through color and texture.
Here's how: Simply use fancy-edged scissors and outline with Iron-on Thread. Use Medium #16 Braid for a thin, round line and a delicate look, or the 1/8" Ribbon for a wide, flat look that is bolder. You can also decorate the edges of scalloped die cuts in the same way. The card above
uses Kreinik 1/8" Ribbon in Silver (6020).
Extra tips: You can also decorate the edges of scalloped die cuts in the same way. Take inexpensive store-bought greeting cards (we love the Dollar Store) and trim the edges with scalloped scissors, then decorate with the iron-on thread. For scrapbooks, cut one side of the background paper with the fancy-edged scissors, then embellish with a coordinating color of iron-on thread. It will look similar to a gilded-edge book.
