Designed by: Jean Farnum
Skill Level: Intermediate
Design Size: 74 stitches wide by 98 stitches high
Traditionally, the pineapple is a symbol of "welcome", and this little design would make a charming welcome to any doorknob or holiday tree (for any holiday). It can be stitched quickly to make as a wedding gift for a couple, and is certain to become a family heirloom.
Materials needed:
-
Kreinik Silk Mori (2.5m skeins) in 0423, 0434, 0634, 0715, 0633
-
#28 Tapestry needle
-
pale blue 28-count linen, 32-count linen, or 36-count linen
Instructions:
This design is stitched on linen so that you can achieve fine details with your stitches. Note on the color key and main chart which colors are stitched over two threads on the linen fabric, or over one thread. Refer to the photo of the model as a guide.
If stitching on 28-count linen, cross stitch over two with two strands of thread; cross stitch over one with one strand. Backstitch with one strand of thread. Satin Stitch the pineapple with one strand of thread, laying the silk smoothly for maximum light reflection.
(Higher counts of linen may require you to stitch with just one strand of thread over two. Experiment to get the look you desire.)
