Iron-on Summer Journal

This is a fun way to use scraps of fabrics (or paper) and embellish a blank book. The iron-on threads make the technique fast, the metallic in the thread makes the design stand out. It's fancy enough to give as a gift, or keep for a vacation journal.

Materials:

• Journal or blank book with a plain cover
• Fabric scraps in blue, gold, red, and white
• Kreinik Iron-on 1/8" Ribbon 6130 Red
• Kreinik Iron-on #16 Braid 6230 Burnished Gold
• Mini iron or household iron
• 4x6 Treasure Tape Sheets
• Tools: scissors, iron

Instructions:

Turn your iron on to the highest heat setting and let it heat thoroughly.

1. Cut one Treasure Tape sheet to your desired design size. Using that shape as a guide, begin cutting your fabric scraps into pieces that fit together.

2. Peel the white liner off the tape (you can place it across one corner of your tape to help you position it- slick side down!) Begin placing your cut fabric pieces on the tape, smoothing them with your fingers to adhere. When your entire piece of tape is covered, trim any edges or stray threads. Peel off the red liner and position your design on your journal's cover.

3. Use the Iron-on Ribbon to cover the seams between fabric pieces and outline your whole design. Lay the ribbon at a starting point, cover with the Teflon Press Cloth, and press with your hot iron for several seconds or until the thread adheres. Then embellish your design with the Iron-on Braid, adding curls and loops or zig-zags and stripes.
