Embroidered Acorn Card

Designed by Amy Law
Skill level: all

Handmade cards are a beautiful, fun, creative way to use scraps of fabric, paper, and thread you may have kept "just in case." We all save those bits and pieces; put them to use in a meaningful greeting card that will brighten someone's day. This card is so pretty, it would also make a bookmark to give as a gift.

Materials used in our model:
  • Cream Blank card (4.25" x 5.5")
  • Green Batik fabric
  • Green ribbon
  • Green, Burgundy, Dark Brown cardstock
  • Tokens & Trifles sewing card- back
  • Kreinik #4 Braid 210 Gold Dust
  • Kreinik Silk Mori 3065 Dark Henna
  • Acorn stamp, Katie & Co.
  • stamp pad
  • McGill Craftivity Punch, Stacking Square 1 9/16" Stamp
  • Tools: scissors, tape, glue stick, small sewing needle, small embroidery hoop
Instructions:
  1.  First, cut out your pieces: a rectangle of batik fabric for your background, a piece of green cardstock to layer behind your Token card, a strip of burgundy cardstock to layer behind your ribbon, and a punched stamp shape from your brown cardstock. Determine where you want your acorn and stamp the image on your ribbon (blot the stamp lightly first for a crisper image).
  2. Place your ribbon in the embroidery hoop so it is stretched tight, and begin stitching over your acorn. Use Gold Dust braid in small scattered stitches to fill the bottom of the acorn, then stitch the outline and cap with Dark Henna silk. Next, sew around the edge of your Token with the Dark Henna silk. Tie or tape the ends when finished.
  3. Cut your ribbon section to the right length for your card and begin assembling the pieces.  Layer your ribbon, stamp punch, burgundy cardstock, Token card, and green cardstock. Tape the ends of your ribbon securely around the back of the green cardstock. Attach your fabric to your card, then center your acorn design on the fabric and attach.
