Have a Tea Party!

A friend of mine invited me to have tea with her at an adorable tea shop in Old Ellicott City, Maryland. I’m more of a coffee person than anything, so I wasn’t sure what to expect when I learned I’d be there sipping tea for a good two hours. When we arrived, a waitress dressed in a lacy apron and bow in her hair greeted us and showed us to our table.  We climbed a flight of winding stairs and entered a small room off on its own, complete with an antique hutch decorated with exquisite china (that I was very afraid to break)! She explained the menu in one of those soothing voices that mother’s use when tucking a child into bed.

I sat and stared out the tiled windows onto the quaint street below as she reentered ‘our room’ with a tray of individual teapots and cups. She daintily placed our cups in front of us and explained the fine art of steeping a pot of tea. We were instructed to allow the tea bag to steep for three minutes before indulging. I ordered the lavender tea and fully expected to round the corner on my way out of the teahouse in desperate search for a pot of coffee. But, to my surprise, I tasted the most delicious cup of liquid I’d ever had!

I really became hooked on this tea party when she brought out the three tier plates filled with scones and butter spreads, cute little sandwiches, and some of the best desserts I’ve ever tasted! I was in heaven! I felt like a little girl again sitting at the grown up table, allowed to use the best china. I even held my finger up when sipping!

As I get older, I realize how important it is to keep an open mind and try knew things. It’s what keeps me feeling like a kid inside still! And, as the birthday candles continue to light up the room a little brighter each year, feeling like a kid now and again is a good thing!

To bring out the kid in you, Brooke Nolan, of Brooke's Books Publishing, has designed a fun Halloween design, A Haunted Tea Party.

Enjoy!
