The Good Side of Life!
We adopted another dog last month, and she is fitting right in to the Cardona household. What started out as a ‘trial week’ turned into a trip to the local pet store to stock up on new toys, more food, equipment, and a Halloween outfit for our new addition, Cash, a female boxer. Our other dog, Chesty, took right to her from the moment she trampled into his domain and took over. He just watched her plow through the hall on her leap over the doorstep and has spent the last three weeks trying to keep up. To say the least, we’re all going through some major transitions.
Instead of walking one boxer every morning, I now walk two. Thank goodness she’s only fifty pounds! What used to be a calm, soothing walk with Chesty has now transitioned into quite the trek through my neighborhood. Boy, would Cesar Milan, the Dog Whisperer, have a field day coaching me. Neighbors must get a good chuckle when they see me dragging behind my overzealous dogs. Long gone are the days of orderly walks. Now, I get tossed around here and there when a squirrel happens to run in front of us or another dog and his owner decide to walk on our side of the street. At first I huffed and puffed my way through it, fighting the chaos every step I took. I considered walking them separately, which would force me to wake up at four in the morning instead of four-forty-five. Then, I realized it could be a long life for us all if I didn’t change my attitude and take on this challenge with a more positive, sensitive approach. So, I shifted.
I invested in proper equipment, watched some training videos, read lots of books and stepped out of my front door with a fresh perspective. Now, only three weeks into my new routine, I am confident in saying I think I have a handle on this two dog household. I think my dogs actually view me as their leader now, too, instead of the person they drag around and trample all over! Now, with the holiday season approaching, I'm excited because I'll get to actually enjoy the pretty decorations on our somewhat 'leisurely' walks through the neighborhood!
To help you focus on the pretty side of life this holiday season, we have designed a fun project, Holiday Tea Towels.
Enjoy!
