A Worthy Goal

Two months ago, my husband (Hector) and I set a goal to be healthy. We both had our annual physicals and didn't like what the doctor had to say as far as our overall well-being. Thankfully, our lab results didn't indicate anything serious, but they did point to signs that if we didn't start to really take care of ourselves, we could potentially wind up with serious problems. This wake up call prompted us to sit down and decide what we would do together as a team to lose weight and become more physically active. Unknown to us at the time, that morning as we sat down at our dining room table with pens in hand, scribbling down the actions we'd take to accomplish this goal, we were going to change much more than our physical beings. Setting our goals down in writing changed the way we viewed life, as well.

To see a goal in writing actually made it come alive for us. We couldn't ignore what we wanted to achieve. When the alarm went off at five a.m. each morning, I thought of our goal of running in the Baltimore 5K race and rose out of bed to go for that morning run. With each day that passed, we became more and more determined to run the entire 5K and therefore, woke from our comfortable beds to hit the streets. We had only six weeks to prepare. We went from running one minute to running thirty, and by the time race day came, we arrived at Camden Yards ready and set to go. As we ran the streets of Baltimore that very cool, crisp October morning, a feeling of elation overcame us both. Neither me or Hector could wipe the smiles off our faces as we passed the crowds lining the streets making our way to the finish line. We had set out to run 3.1 miles that day and received so much more in return.

For the first time in our lives, we realized that we can do anything we set our minds to.

In the spirit of setting our heart and minds ablaze with the beauty of possibilities, Amy Law has designed a lovely project, ‘Snow Falling'.

Enjoy!
