What's a Japan #5 Thread?
 |
These are synthetic, non-tarnishing
gimps that give the appearance of stitching with real
metals—but more readily available, at a more affordable
price, and easier to use. Use them anywhere, from Asian embroidery
to charted needlepoint, painted canvas,
samplers, ecclesiastical, and other
surface embroidery.
Stitch with Japan #5 or couch it (tack it on the surface) using a thinner thread. Kreinik Japan #5 is available on spools or in skeins. |
More details:
They have a bright metallic finish, like shiny real metals
or metal wire. The smooth finish offers more sheen plus a smooth stitching experience.
Versatile! Couch it, stitch, try it in specialty stitches, use it for beading.
We cross-stitched with one strand on 18-
count needlepoint canvas, and used two
strands in tent stitch on 18-count (the“square” or “faceted” aspect makes the
stitches look like bugle beads). We also
cross-stitched with it on 14-count Aida;
use a larger Tapestry needle and it will glide right through the smaller fabric holes. Experiment, play, have fun.
Use it to couch
Kreinik 3/8" Trim for trimming ornaments, stockings, stand-ups, purses, and other designs. The colors are perfect
matches and the couching thread will be invisible.

threads on your fabric and couch with anything.
