Experience Needle-Time Needle-Time is a fictional piece written to bring to life the magic that surrounds the love of carrying on the tradition of the needlearts from generation to generation. Join me for a new story each issue that will reflect the strong bond formed between Aunt Lilly and Molly through their special needle-time.
Last issue Molly helped remind Aunt Lilly that love should be celebrated at all times. Join us this issue as Molly creates a supportive gift for her mom and dad's anniversary. The Greatest Support Molly sat staring up at Aunt Lilly’s vine-covered house. Over the years, the vines had taken over the back of her house and now Molly could see it completely covered the blue siding below it. The vine reminded Molly of a crocheted blanket that, with the passing time, grew bigger and bigger. “Aunt Lilly will you ever cut the vine down?” Her aunt peered up at her through her rectangle eyeglasses and opened her eyes wide. “Never! This vine has grown alongside me and is now just as much a part of my house as the doors and windows are.” “But, how do they keep growing like they do?” Aunt Lilly placed her lemonade down on a coaster. “Just as easily as we do. It drinks water and eats nutrients and,” she stopped and touched her finger to one of it’s green leafs,” it is guided by so much support by the vines around it that it remains strong and flexible enough to keep moving forward.” “So a vine is kind of like people. It eats, drinks, and is surrounded by lots of support.” “I like to think of a vine as I do love. The more you nurture it, the more it grows and the healthier it remains. There is no limit to where it can take your eye. As you follow it, it winds around and around and never seems to end.” Molly thought about what Aunt Lilly said and it made her think of her mom and dad’s upcoming wedding anniversary. When they first got married they started as two little leafs and now, together, they have grown into lots and lots of leafs that moved and grew together over the years. “Aunt Lilly, I have an idea what I can make for mom and dad’s anniversary!” Aunt Lilly rose from her chaise lounger and placed her hands on her hips. “I’m guessing you’re thinking of vines?” Molly nodded in excitement. “Do you have that Chartreuse Green metallic thread? I think that would be the perfect green to use on the highlights where the sun shines on my parents leafs!” “Yes, I do! And I have the chocolate brown to use for the sinewy vines to show their magnificent strength!” Molly could see clearly the vines that she’d create to decorate the edges of her fabric and to act as a border to her mom and dad’s anniversary date in the center. “Do you think they’ll understand the importance of the stitched vine, Aunt Lilly?” “Understand? Your mom is the one who yelled at me the day I almost chopped the vines away from the bottom of my house. She told me, ‘Lilly, don’t you realize that everyone needs the support of vines in their life’.” Molly smiled inside enjoying the fact that she had such great ‘vines’ in her life.
