Ombre Thread

This month’s design uses Kreinik Ombre, which is like an overdyed metallic, only fuzzy. Use it when you want to add a unique texture to certain stitches or an area of a design. It will make that area stand out. For instance, use Ombre in 3200 Pearl for stitches of snow and that area will look more realistic. Ombre is available on larger cones by special order; ask your local needlework store for more information.

Very Fine # 4 Braid

If you think metallic threads are hard to use in cross stitch, try Very Fine #4 Braid. It’s easy to use because it’s very soft and flexible, you don’t need to ply it, and you don’t need to use more than one strand. Simply cut a length from the spool and start stitching. It is designed for perfect coverage on 16- and 18-count Aida, or for stitching on linens. It’s a nice thin thread size, so you can also use it for fine details in needlepoint projects. The education section on www.kreinik.com has more stitching tips and information on this thread.
