My husband is truly frightened of Halloween this year. He's not frightened of the witches, goblins and inventive, true-to-life costumes, but of the extra large bags of mini candy bar bags we will have hanging around the house. It's been our tradition in past Halloweens to indulge in the leftover minis for weeks after, never dreaming of actually tossing the extras out after we have turned off our porch light, closed our front door and called it a night. But this year will have to be different. It's been eight weeks since we've been eating as a team; a well-balanced team that is. His doctor instructed him to lose a few pounds by eating a strict diet free of the type sugar that lurks in all that delicious candy. A few pounds lighter and a whole bunch healthier, he is a little nervous to have the tempation around him this year. But he is very motivated to reach his goal. Success will come from this motivation.
So, this year, we are turning our focus to where it should have belonged all these years anyway, to the children in our neighborhood. We will concentrate on making it fun for them and in turn it will be fun for us. My husband's got a whole bunch of great ideas planned that'll really make our home the highlight of the trick-or-treater's adventures that night. I might even be a little frightened myself! Who knows, I might find myself hiding behind a door to avoid being spooked. But, it won't be with a pocket full of 10-20 mini candy bars (okay, maybe one or two).
To get you in the spirit of Halloween, Amy Law has put together some really fun projects. Enjoy!
Happy Halloween!
