50 Ways to Embellish Costumes using Kreinik

 
 

Using Treasure It Tape

Make washable and dry cleanable no sew embellishment-place double-faced tape over design, embellish with threads and beads, place Teflon sheet over design, cover with ironing cloth and heat set with iron.  These designs can be washed hand washed, washed in a protective bag in the washing machine or cleaned in a green dry cleaning machine.

Theatre

  1. Apply faux embroidery with metallic threads along with beading to costumes
  2. Embellish props with filigree or faux jewels or ribbons
  3. Bejewel walking sticks, jars, bottles, books, clocks, shoes, etc.
  4. Quick fixes on torn costumes or ill-fitting costumes
  5. Hem clothing (skirts, pants)
  6. Decorate props that normally can not be embellished
  7. Tape, because of its strength, enables the hanging of objects in places thought impossible
  8. Attach fringe or lace to the hem of a dress
  9. Attaching appliances to skin
    1. First powder skin to dry

Using Iron On threads

Create embellishments by ironing on thread.  Then go over and simply topstitch the fusible threads.  These threads are washable and dry cleanable.  Iron On threads will adhere to any irregular surface including glass, fabric, paper, and wood.

  1. Create faux Cornelli (decorative stitching and sewing)
  2. Easily embellish clothing with fanciful designs then topstitch
  3. Temporarily embellish clothing without topstitching
  4. Embellish banners and signs
  5. Use stencils with disappearing chalk then apply threads, with heat, chalk disappears leaving the design highlighted by the threads.
