Miraculous Transformations!
Dear Readers,
I took a walk one day and stopped to look at the bare branches of the trees, realizing that soon I would be seeing the life springing up in them. Then, two days later on that same walk, sure enough, those same trees had new life growing on them. The buds emerged as tiny nubs on the end of each branch. By week's end, tiny flowers bloomed. All around me on my walks suddenly, happy, lively tree buds bloomed in vibant colors of yellow and rose. Each day they looked different. They started as nubs, turned to flowers, and soon they will transform into green leaves. If one wasn't paying attention, the magic of this emerging life could go by so fast that the miracle could be completely missed.
This got me thinking about how fragile life's little miraculous transformations are, how fast they occur, and how temporary they are. I remember planting my first garden as though it were just the other day. The plants, which started as seedlings, bore delicious tomatoes, fresh cucumbers, and healthy sprigs of mint that we enjoyed all season long. I had more tomatoes and mint than I could possibly eat and actually began wishing their growth spurt would end! Then, in the bleak of winter, I craved their fresh, untamed growth.
On the path to transformation, I often make the mistake of wanting to get ahead of myself to see the end result. This occurs with everything from reaching maturity, to eating dessert, to running a race, and to getting from one season to another. In the process of each of these transformations is something to be admired and enjoyed. If I were more patient I would revel in youth, savor the flavor of the main entree, embrace the rush of adrenaline with each step in a race, and appreciate the cycle of life as it unfolds before me.
