Instructions:
1. Crazy Quilt Teacups: Crazy quilt the pattern of the teacup, make 3, (see Pattern 1). Start by cutting a 6" piece of muslin. Next, cut a small five-sided piece of fabric. Pin the fabric to the center of your muslin block right side up, lay a second piece of fabric against it, face down, with two seams matching. Machine or hand stitch along that seam. Open the second fabric and trim the two edges even with the first fabric. Continue around the five-sided center piece. Continue in this fashion until you have filled the block. The beauty of crazy quilting-there are no rules.
2. Layer the teacup pieces as shown on the pattern: A, B, C, D: Turn under 1/4" seam of crazy quilt teacup shape and sew to background shape.
3. Embroider Decoration: Using Kreinik Metallic Threads and Kreinik Iron on Threads, embroider a variety of embroidery stitches. Iron on threads along the seams of the crazy quilt teacup. Embellish with button, beads and lace (See Fig 2.-scroll down).
4. Assembling the teacup wall hanging:
Cut one 12" x 18" piece of white fabric
Cut one 6" x 12" piece of spring colored fabric
Cut twenty-two Arrowhead shapes (pattern E), use three different colors
Cut six 1" x 5" strips, use different colors of fabric
Cut five 1" x 6" strips, use different colors of fabric
Cut one 14" x 20" piece of fabric for the backside
Cut three 3" x 3 1/2" pieces of fabric for hanging loops, different
colors
5. Tea Pocket: Weave the strips of fabric, six vertical and five horizontal, alternate different colors of fabric (See Fig 1.-scroll down). Stitch together on machine or by hand. Add lace, buttons, and Kreinik Iron on Threads #16 Braid for embellishment (See Fig 1.).
6. Top layer assembly: Cut a curved border on the right hand side of 6" x 12" fabric. Pin to the left-hand side of the 12" x 18" white fabric. Layer a piece of lace between the curved border and the white fabric. Baste around the edge of the fabric. Using the Fusible Bonding Web, attach the arrowhead shapes along edge of curved border (See Pattern 2 and Fig 1.). Sew
around each shape, using the buttonhole stitch. Iron on Kreinik Iron on Thread #16 Braid along each side of the curved arrowhead design border.
7. Center the tea pocket between the right hand side and curved border (See Fig. 1) Sew to white fabric and iron on Kreinik Iron on Thread #1/8" ribbon around the pocket.
8. Position the teacups and sew on to fabric (See Pattern 2 or Fig 1.). Iron on Kreinik Iron on Thread #1/8? ribbon around outside edge of each teacup (See Fig. 2.).
9. Place the white fabric on a light table and trace the "teatime lettering 3/4" from the bottom of the fabric (See Fig 3). Around the outer edge draw squiggly lines and leaves that originate back into teacups (See Pattern 2 and Fig 1). Iron on Kreinik Iron on Thread #8 and #16 Braid on the
squiggly lines and leaves.
10. Sew on button, beads, lace and crocheted pieces to embellish (See Fig 1).
11. Attach quilt batting or felt to the backside of the 12? x 18? piece of
fabric. Quilt the top layer in your own design.
12. Backside: Place the top layer and backside layer together, wrong side facing. Turn the outer edge of backside fabric on to the topside. Turn under 1/4" and sew a 1/2" border around the entire wall hanging, (See Fig 1).
13. Hanging Loops: Fold the fabric in half, right side facing. Sew around leaving one side open. Turn inside out. Sew open end by turning in 1/4" inside and stitch closed. Fold each hanging loop in half; sew in place at top of wall hanging, one on each side and one in the center. Make sure measurement of
loops is exactly the same so the teacup wall hanging hangs evenly.
14. Finishing: The wall hanging can be hung with a store bought quilt-hanging rod. Or, wrap a 20" piece of 1/4" inch doweling with a colorful yarn, glue yarn at each end. Make tassels to hang at either end. Attach a piece of yarn to either side of the dowel to hang.
